Resources available to spot fraud if victimized

Fraud comes in many different forms and can happen to anyone. Every year, millions of Americans become victims.

The Federal Trade Commission offers more than 100 publications and videos on what to do if you suspect you’ve been scammed. Whether it’s online, on the phone, in the mail, or from someone who approaches you on the street, scams come in all forms. To learn about common scams, online security, data breaches, identity theft, erase your debt, mortgages, or improve your credit score scams, check out these FTC resources. Nearly 70 of these resources are available in Spanish.

These resources are free and can be ordered in large quantities at ftc.gov/bulkorder.

The FTC has done an excellent job helping consumers spot and avoid fraud, including information on how to recover from identity theft, how to spot and stop imposter scams, and resources for empowering older adults. They’ve also published a popular series of fotonovelas that tell stories about scams targeting Latino communities.

For Hispanic Heritage Month 2018, the FTC also has resources in Spanish for business owners. The FTC recently published Scams and Your Small Business in English and Spanish. It’s an effort to help all small business owners protect their businesses against scams. They also have information in Spanish on computer security basics for small businesses, guidance on protecting personal information, and the popular Start with Security guide for business, which provides 10 practical lessons to keep sensitive business data secure, and more.
