Nonprofits making a difference in Southern Utah area: TDS associates

Southern Utah is full of nonprofits making a difference. As we near the Thanksgiving season, our TDS associates gave shoutouts to several organizations near and dear to their hearts.

“I have been most impressed with the nonprofit SUPIC (Southern Utah Pacific Islander Collation).  They have been running the local Utah Food Bank Mobile Pantry every week and feeding hundreds of families in Washington County.  They spend two to three hours weekly loading and unloading the food truck and distributing food at different cities each week.  Our Washington City Rotary has been humbled by the service they provide to the needy families here in our county. Wendi Bulkley, Associate Manager of TDS Field Marketing

There are so many awesome nonprofits in Southern Utah, so it’s difficult to narrow it down! The one I personally volunteer most with is the Film and Media Alliance of Southern Utah (FMASU). My husband and I love films. The FMASU Horrorfest is on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and we can’t wait! TDS is also a sponsor of their Electric Film series events and we have used our Be Good Citizens time to help. PAWS, RSQ Animal Rescue Team, Because Animals Matter – The BAM Place, and Jackson Day Foundation are all phenomenal nonprofit rescue organizations. Sarah Reister, Administrator of Order Management

The Utah Tech Athletic Department does a lot of volunteer work.  The women’s basketball team and so many other athletes do amazing service work, even with their busy schedules as athletes and students. The athletes pick up trash around town, volunteer for the Washington County School District golf fundraiser, set up and take down at the Huntsman Senior Games, and they will soon be helping with the nonprofit Roots for Kids fundraiser.  The athletes reach out to many areas of the community and are a fun group of individuals who love to serve! Utah Tech athletes also help with the TDS-sponsored internet safety program! Cindy Powell, Senior Administrator of Field Marketing

BAM, or Because Animals Matter, was started in 2006 after seeing there was a need for an animal welfare organization outside of the animal shelters. They try to rescue dogs from bad situations and from kill shelters and are completely reliant upon volunteers and donations. My mom adopted her dog from there and Piper is the best dog! Beth Talbot, Administrator of New Market Development

Congratulations to Tyler Hunsaker who was named the 2022 Volunteer of the Year by the Washington Area Chamber of Commerce. Earlier this year, Tyler was also named a TDS Volunteer of the Quarter

From philanthropic dates with his wife to solo volunteering after a full day’s work, Tyler never wastes an opportunity to give back to the communities of St. George and Washington, Utah. Over the last year, Tyler started the Washington Area Rotary Club.

“It’s great to work for TDS, a company that cares about us and encourages us to get involved in our communities,” Tyler said.

In other TDS associate news: TDS’ Wendi Bulkley will be named chair of the Washington Area Chamber of Commerce.

At TDS, we know volunteers and nonprofit organizations provide a tremendous service to those who are less fortunate in the communities we serve. During this season of Thanksgiving, we want to thank the nonprofits who are making a difference in our communities.
