How often do you work from home? From the coffee shop? While waiting for your flight at the airport?
According to statistics, you’re probably doing it fairly often. I’ve certainly done my fair share of it — already this week. In an article from Citrix, it’s stated that the traditional model of work is becoming a distant memory. You remember those days. Working in the office at your desk from 9 to 5. No ability to work from your couch. No tablet or app on your smartphone to check your work email before bed on a Sunday. (I’ve personally made it a rule to keep my nose out of my work email on Sunday nights to maintain some semblance of weekend, but you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do).
Sure, the old days sound nice, but they just aren’t realistic anymore. What the folks at Citrix have learned is that there is substantial growth in mobility interest and adoption within the workplace. Employees want the freedom to work from anywhere.
It’s no longer a luxury. It’s becoming fundamental to support a happy and productive workforce.
The article highlights some current mobility trends, and they may surprise you:
- 61 percent of workers report working outside the office at least part of the time (unexpected childcare snafu? Stay home with your child and work)
- 3+ devices are used daily by an employee for work activities (your laptop, your phone, your tablet… you get the idea)
- The number of devices managed in the workforce increased 72 percent from 2014 to 2015 (like that work-issued tablet you keep on hand now)It’s something to consider. For more information on how to make your business more responsive to changing customer and employee needs, visit www.tdsvoip.com.
Think about it. How many devices do you use on a daily basis for business tasks? I’ve personally got three, and all three of them keep me connected to work at all times, no matter where I am. Is your business ahead of the mobility trend?
