Five fun family activities to celebrate Halloween together

Halloween offers a perfect time to bring family and friends together for some spooky fun! Whether you enjoy thrilling scares or prefer something more lighthearted, there are options for everyone.

We rounded up a few fun activities you can try with your family and friends this Halloween:

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Pumpkin carving is a Halloween classic and it’s also a great way for everyone in the family to showcase their creativity. This activity can be kept simple for younger kids by giving them pumpkin paint or stickers, while older kids and adults can get more detailed with their carving tools (check out this Better Homes & Gardens list for some ideas). Make it a contest by awarding fun categories like “scariest pumpkin,” “funniest pumpkin,” or “most creative design.”

Halloween Scavenger Hunt

If you’re more into interactive activities, create a Halloween scavenger hunt around your house or yard. You can hide spooky items like plastic spiders, miniature pumpkins, and fake skeleton bones, then give everyone a list of what to find. For some added fun, you can make the scavenger hunt glow-in-the-dark, using glow sticks or flashlights for the eerie Halloween effect.

Halloween Dance Party

Transform your living room into a spooky dance floor and have a Halloween-themed dance party! Create a playlist of classic Halloween songs such as “Thriller” by Michael Jackson and let everyone show off their best dance movies while dressed in costume. (Check out this playlist for inspiration) Don’t forget to decorate the space with Halloween lights, spider webs, and glow sticks for a party atmosphere

Spooky Halloween Baking

Get the family into the Halloween spirit by baking some spooky-themed treats together. From pumpkin-shaped sugar cookies to cupcakes topped with “eyeballs” made of gummy candies, the options truly are endless. Let each family member pick their favorite treat to make and then spend some time decorating them. You’ll end with delicious desserts and plenty of family bonding time.

Family Horror Movie Night

Finish off your Halloween celebration with a horror movie night! Pick a few spooky movies and gather around with some snacks such as popcorn, candy corn, and pumpkin-flavored treats. If you want to add to the atmosphere, dim the lights or even watch with just the glow of some jack-o-lanterns for an extra eerie vibe.

Whether you prefer fun, creative tasks like pumpkin carving or want to settle in for a spooky movie night, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Do you have a favorite activity we missed? Let us know in the comments!
