TDS’ field services technicians have one of the toughest jobs in our industry. Each day, they are on the road troubleshooting for our customers.
Meet Andres of Fort Stockton, Texas, one of TDS’ outstanding field services technicians (FST) in the cable market. Andres is conscientious and enjoys making sure TDS customers are happy too.
Andres’ desire to provide TDS customers with the best experience ever, makes him one of the bright stars in our FST team.
Andres was recently named by TDS Telecom one “who consistently demonstrates extraordinary dedication to customers” and received the TDS Inspiring Excellence award. Each year, TDS recognizes fewer than 2% of its more than 3,000 employees with this award.
Andres started working in the cable industry when he was 19-years-old. He said he was hired as an FST because his boss loved his spirit and his can-do attitude.
What do FSTs do?
FSTs handle home installs, troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance of telecommunications equipment that TDS sells and leases. They occasionally climb telephone polls in and around the homes of our customers to fix issues on the wires.
At first, Andres worked on customer service calls. He then began line work, next he worked on equipment and then with fiber.
“Anything new, I wanted to learn and rise to the situation,” he said, adding that as he took on new work, he “suddenly started to see and learn the ins and outs of the entire system. It was great for me.”
Working on customer service calls was a job he really enjoyed. “I felt like I made a difference when I helped the customer out.”
Today, Andres loves the variety his job provides. “No day is the same,” he said. All aspects of his job, he said, is to give “the customer the very best service.”
When he meets with a customer and they are not happy, Andres said he sees it as an opportunity to “win” this customer over. “I think, OK, what can I do to make this customer happy?”
In addition, Andres sees his coworkers as a team and he knows they are only a phone call away if he needs help on a project. “We all get out there and try our best. This job is so rewarding once you solve a problem.”
TDS appreciates Andres and the outstanding service he delivers. We know our customers appreciate Andres too.
Andres is married and he and his wife have two young children with a baby girl on the way next year.
