TDS program provides paid time off for volunteerism

How many opportunities does one have to get paid time off and help their community?

If you’re a TDS associate, you get at least four chances every year. The company’s Be Good Citizens program allows eligible associates to be paid up to four hours per quarter for approved volunteer work.

It’s all part of TDS’ Shared Value of “Investing in people and communities” and the strong commitment to helping the areas we serve. Associates have given their time to a wide variety of groups and causes. Last year alone, associates logged more than 1,400 volunteer hours.

Anna Jensen, associate manager of field marketing in southern Wisconsin, used Be Good Citizens hours five times last year at a variety of events and organizations, including an after-school program, chamber of commerce events, and a holiday toy drive.

“Being a good citizen means giving back to the community that supports TDS. Volunteering is a great way to not only give back but to also meet people plus it gives you a great sense of purpose,” Anna said. “I love that TDS allows us to give back in this capacity by providing volunteer hours to support organizations that are important to associates. In my previous roles working for nonprofits, I know how important volunteers are to support the mission.”

Food banks and pantries are common organizations for Be Good Citizens hours. In the Knoxville, Tennessee, area, associates recently volunteered at the Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee.

“The Be Good Citizens program is our opportunity as associates to come together and work to improve our community. TDS understands building community goes hand in hand with the associates who represent the company,” said Tyler Hunsaker, manager of Regional Field Marketing. He added: “Be Good Citizens not only helps strengthen our communities through service, but it also allows you to meet other associates who live in the market.”
